Purtox
Thursday, July 7th, 2011A rather immediate solution for facial lines and wrinkles is Botox. Is has been popularized by its effectiveness and at the same time by the issues that put a cloud on it. Botox has been the favorite of patients and recommended by cosmetic surgeons until Dysport was introduced. Though Dysport is a viable contender, the public still opted to go for the original botulinum toxin. Recently, one of the latest and more advance solution was introduced, PurTox.
What is PurTox?
PurTox facial treatment is also a cosmetic preparation or solution derived from botulinum toxin A, injected on the targeted facial area to relax and eliminate lines and wrinkles. Similarities between PurTox injections and Botox can be noted but the main distinctions can be said in three folds; that the toxin used to create PurTox is purer compared to that of Botox, that it is capable of addressing wider array of line and wrinkle problems, and that post treatment results would last longer compared to Botox and Dysport. Currently, the solution is not yet available on the market since it has yet to be approved by the FDA which is now conducting clinical tests for the product.
How does PurTox works?
Treatment procedure is just the same with its predecessors taking only 10 to 20 minutes. The chemical solution works in the same principle wherein nerve signals on the face are blocked by the toxin to prevent any neuromuscular activity during instances when a patient reacts to certain emotions. Such neuromuscular activity is the cause of muscle tension and spasm that later on transforms into visible lines and wrinkles on certain areas of the face. The solution simply smoothens out and relaxes the skin muscles. Days after the treatment, the patient should see some improvement on the lines and wrinkles and depending on the assessment of the cosmetic surgeon, a follow up session or treatment may be warranted.
Is PurTox effective?
The solution is still on its clinical testing stage but medical doctors have already witness some potential and favorable results. Whether it is capable of addressing a wider array of line and wrinkle problems or the results can lasts longer, these are still claims that need to be proven based on future studies and patient reports. It is also worthy to take note that PurTox, Botox, and Dysport are not permanent treatments to lines and wrinkles.
Who may undergo PurTox treatment?
The target market or patients of the solution is still the same with that of Botox and Dysport, patients who are looking for a non-invasive cosmetic treatment for facial lines and wrinkles at minimal downtime. Of course, some other considerations will still be determined by the patient’s doctor or surgeon.
PurTox risks and health hazards
Since the solution is botulinum toxin based, potential risks and hazards are similar to some extent like temporary bruising, swelling and redness of the injected site and the neighboring skin area. There are also reported cases of ptosis or drooping/swollen eyelids which will eventually fade and subside simultaneous with the treatment healing.
How much does PurTox costs?
The solution is not yet mass produced and yet to be introduced in the market, however, to be able to compete with its existing contenders, experts say that the price will surely stay close to that of Botox.
